An entrepreneur is a person who manages a business undertaking and
assumes the risk associated with the business for the sake of making profits. An entrepreneur should make the complex simple and not
otherwise.
He/She is a person who has possession of an enterprise,
venture or idea and assumes significant accountability for the inherent risks
and outcome of the business. She is an ambitious leader who combines land,
labour and capital to achieve results.
27 Qualities of an entrepreneur
- Confidence: An entrepreneur must be confident. The direct opposite of confidence is doubt. People do not like to do business with a timid person. There is a thin line between confidence and arrogance. Be careful not to cross it.
- Curiosity: Have the desire to know something. Carry out researches. If you have an interest in a particular kind of business, carry out your research about it. Have the tendency to pry; have an extensive interest in people who do this kind of business. Understudy them. This will give you the ability to be two steps ahead of your peers and is what will give you the advantage over your competitors.
- Consistency: This is the ability to maintain a particular standard or repeat a particular task with minimum variation. You have started this business. Are you going to continue with it?
- Courage: The ability to face danger. Difficulty, uncertainty or pain without fear or deviation from a chosen course of action, is courage.
- Flexibility: This is the ability to adapt to new situations; the ability to change or be changed according to circumstances.
- Creativity: This is the ability to change something old into something new. An entrepreneur needs to be creative and innovative. She should be able to create new or modify something old into something new. Be creative enough to provide value to the customer. An example of this is how I create new music from the olden days talking drums. Making the complicated simple, is creativity.
- Networker: I am not talking about network marketing, like MMM. Practice the habit of gathering contacts; the process or practice of building up or maintaining informal relationships especially with people whose friendship could bring about advantages such as jobs or business opportunities. For example, I have gotten several jobs from Facebook, which is a social network platform.
- Dogged Faith: This is the determination to continue with your business amidst obstacles. I have dogged faith for the success of Drumline Entertainment.
- Passionate: This is having a keen desire or enthusiasm for your business. I have a lot of enthusiasm for the services that I provide under Drumline Entertainment.
- Visionary: This is being full of foresight characterized by an unusually acute foresight and imagination. This is giving to dreaminess; tending by nature to be dreamy or have practical schemes and ideas. I dream of being a top Nigerian DJ and musician in Nigeria, Africa and the world. I dream of Drumline being a topmost music publishing company in Nigeria. I dream of Drumline Entertainment being business managers for top musicians, artistes, dancers, actor, music producers, etc, in Nigeria.
- Practical: This is concerned with matters of fact; real life experience. No theory. An entrepreneur should be good at managing matters and dealing with difficulties.
- Prudent: An entrepreneur should be careful in managing resources so as to provide for the future.
- Discipline: There should be a conscious control over one’s lifestyle. Entrepreneurs should not be drunkards, promiscuous, womanizers, wasteful and fraudsters. There should be time for work and time for play. Entrepreneurs should be good time managers.
- Hard work: Hard work never kills.
- Willingness to take risks: Entrepreneurs should learn how to take calculated risks. Do not throw caution to the wind all the time.
- Willingness to pay the price: The goal is always more important than the role. Sacrifice is what makes a leader an exemplary one. In the entertainment industry, I can be the best service provider if I am willing to pay the price.
- Problem solver: be a good thinker and look for how to solve problems. Entrepreneurship is about problem solving and making profit from it.
- Action Oriented: Do not procrastinate. Procrastination kills ideas.
- Integrity: People want to work with people that they can trust. In business, there are no sentiments. Learn to build trust with your colleagues and clients or customers.
- Focus: Everything that you do in your business should be in line with what you profess to do. Focus simplifies life.
- Detailed: Be thorough in your service and product manufacturing and sales to your customers and clients. Do not do a shabby job.
- Charisma: This is the ability to win people over with the way your carriage. Back in the days, I used to frown a lot because I hated a 9 to 5 job and because I was in an abusive and unhappy marriage but now, all that is over. Now, I smile a lot and I am more approachable. Kick people who affect you from being happy out of your life so that you can concentrate on the things that matter.
- Wisdom: This is about knowing what to do at every point in time with respect to your business. Have a discerning spirit to differentiate between good business opportunities from bad ones.
- Principled: If you have it at the back of your mind that you will not sleep with anyone to get a contract or a job, you will not. It is as simple As ABC.
- Originality: Be yourself. You can have a mentor but you do not have to be like your mentor. See things differently.
- Thoughtful: Keep on thinking of how to improve your business.
- Teachable:
No man is an island. Learn from others who are willing to teach you. The person
could even be someone who started his business after you. Do not be overly
proud and arrogant. Learning stops only when one is dead. Finally, you should know your weaknesses so that you can employ your strengths.
