What is value?
This is adding a relative worth to a business. Value makes
people to come back to a business. It is not enough to add value by solving a
problem of filling a need, packaging matters. It is not about the goods that you
sell or the service that you provide. It is about the extra service that you
add. Focus more on the value than on the money.
For example, by blogging, I am adding value to you with the information that I write here on a regularbasis. I might as well just leave the relevant information about my
music, writing and consulting services on this website and let you call me only when you
need my services.
I could also decide to just compose my songs and just sing it
but I have added the sound of the talking drums to my music to make it unique.
These are my value-added services for you.
Example:
Difference between a tailor and a fashion
designer
A tailor is more interested in the money but a fashion
designer is more interested in making a name for herself or himself. She adds
value to her services by giving advice about the right colour, style fit, etc.
A tailor does not care about these factors.
Sometimes, it is okay to lose money for value. Sometimes,
people in luxury businesses make more money than people in the necessity
businesses.
DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A VALUE BASED BUSINESS AND A MONEY BASED
BUSINESS
VALUE BASED BUSINESS
|
MONEY BASED BUSINESS
|
1. A business goes up because the value goes up. E.g. Drumline Entertainment, House of
Tara, DSTV
|
Money reduces every minute.
|
2.This business moves the world forward by bringing
development.
|
Brings no development as the people are not
encouraged to think widely or add value to the business. E.g. Network
marketing.
|
3. People love you and your product. E.g. Dangote Industries.
|
People despise you. E.g. Past military and
civilian governors and presidents and head of states.
|
4. It makes you happy
|
It brings depression. E.g. Millionaires who
won money via money lottery.
|
5. It brings fulfillment.
|
It brings emptiness by trying to fill the
void by buying more things. E.g. Plastic surgery, etc
|
6.This business is never limited. For example, car companies
keep improving.
|
Limited; lack of ideas.
