Mercy Aigbe, after her husband battered her |
Aigbe has provided proof of physical abuse and battery by her husband, Lanre Gentry who has been remanded at the Kikiri Prisons.
She explained that the last episode of violence was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Mercy revealed that she was billed to attend the burial of a colleague but Lanre refused to let her go and it was her refusal to go and pick him up while she was still at her designer’s place that brought his fury on her. He was said to have driven there and started to beat her in the presence of everybody.
‘Immediately, I opened the door and he kept beating me. I was begging him and asking why he was beating me. He said he would destroy my face such that no make-up would fix it and destroy my career. He was acting like someone who was possessed. I told him “Lanre, mo ma bi mo fun e” ( I have a child for you).’
The Nollywood actress admitted that it was foolish of her to stay in the marriage for that long. ‘I agree that I am a fool but I believe that a wise woman builds her home. That is why I stayed that long.
She also claimed not to want the marriage to end but it was obvious they both need some form of therapy.
‘It’s not like I wanted to walk away but I just feel like we need help. I spoke to my husband’s brother about it. I told him I was going to pack out for some time while my husband sought therapy. I just wanted to feel safe. So, I moved my things out. This last beating was brutal. I actually thought I was going to die. My husband broke my orbits which will necessitate surgery for me to see properly. I’m still coughing and sneezing blood even after three weeks," she said.
Mercy Aigbe and Lanre Gentry |
While addressing his cheating issues, Aigbe said that she had earlier discovered that her husband was sleeping with a lady; a lady she claimed to be her friend whom she was close to.
This was a regular attitude from her husband as she claimed that he had slept with a lot of people close to her, even her PAs.
She confronted him and it led to a huge argument which was turning violent before she had to keep quiet.
‘If he had shown a bit of remorse maybe things would have been different. He went on to say that I cheated on him several times. I never cheated. That’s why I told him to come out with proof’, she said.
My advice is to run for your life. Stay away, so that you will be alive to take care of your children.
Many women have died trying to keep their homes.
Don't be stupid!
Sincerely yours,
DJ Irawo
